Biography

I started cross country skiing at the age of seven. I was asked at my local daycare in Pakenham, ON if I would like to try the sport by Heinz Niederhauser, who soon became my first coach. I started skiing and racing in the National Capital Division and loved it. Every weekend there was a different race somewhere and a chance to meet up with all my friends and team mates.

When I was 14, I started racing the Ontario Cup series races. I qualified for the Ontario team that year and represented the province at my first national championships, held in Canmore, AB.

I spent 2 seasons training with the National Team Development Centre in Thunder Bay, ON before I made the move to Canmore last spring to train as a member of the newly formed Alberta World Cup Academy team. I am now starting my second season on the Academy.

With 2 world junior championships, an under 23 world championship, and four world cup races under my belt I am looking forward to another great racing season that will be filled with new adventures and hopefully some new opportunities that will lead me closer to achieving my goal of representing Canada at the Olympics.

Getting Ready To Go!!!

Today was our first ski of the year. There is still no snow in the city of Thunder Bay, but just out of town, at Lappe Nordic Centre, there was about 5cm so the entire team strapped on their rock skis and stepped out onto the trails. It felt good to be on snow again even if we were only on snow 50% of the time. I even had one good fall!

I am now only 4 days away from the trip that begins my racing season. I leave this Saturday and won’t be back in Thunder Bay until the second week of January at the earliest. It all depends on what races I qualify for.

So, on Saturday, November 10th the entire team flies to Kelowna, B.C. for a pre-race training camp in Silver Star. I will stay in Silver Star for just over a week before driving to Canmore, AB for our first races of the year! Then I travel back to Silver Star for the next set of races on the Canada Cup circuit. After those races I will stay in Silver Star for a few days before flying all the way across the country to Quebec City. I will race another set of Canada Cup races before going home to Pakenham for Christmas on December 17th.

Immediately after Christmas I head down to the Collingwood, ON to race the World Under 23 Trials to try and qualify to represent Canada in Poland at the World Under 23 Championships. From there on in I don’t know what my season will look like. I have to wait and see how well I am skiing. Let’s hope it’s a good one!
